Has anyone decreased their chronic back pain through exercise?

I only want to hear from people who have tried exercise as a treatment for chronic back pain. Did it work for you? Do you do cardio, weights or both? Which back-specific exercises helped? I need some motivation to start exercising but I don't want to start unless I know it's going to help.

1. Exercises will make you feel better, the pain will be going away. If you do walks with the correct shoes, also streching routines in a warm pool it will help a lot with the pain.
Try to exercise early in the morning so your endorfine level keep you alert and in a better mood for several hours.
If you start an exercise program as aroutine you will see the difference in your whole life and later won't want to miss one single day...

2. I have a prolapsed disc and attended Pilate's without knowing I had a prolapsed disc. Attended for nine months, once a week one hour and boy did it really help. Pilate's works on the core strength, the corset of deep muscles in your tummy, abdomen, which are the muscles that hold you spine in place. If you allow those corset muscles to go slack, loose, then your spine will slip slid out of position and ouch. Once you learn the techniques of Pilate's you have it for life and I still do one hour a week, keep the muscles tight. Best of Luck

3. Yes, I subscribed to doing Pilates and it cured my back pain.

It's an exercise that incorporates stretching, strengthening, balancing, sculpting and firming action into its every exercise movement that targets heavily on your core muscles (abs, back, butts, thighs and spine), to give you strong core (or powerhouse), so that you've strong muscles to support your back, torso and your whole body.

Strong core leads to strong back, hence if you've weak back (which easily causes back injury), you'll benefit from it (i.e. recover form back pain).

4. Hello,

Great question!

This is really a two part answer ....

The first part is - YES! Thousands of people have decreased and even eliminated their chronic back pain through exercise and stretches!

The second part is that most generic back pain exercises are not condition specific and may not provide you with the results that you are looking for.

Back pain exercises are designed to restore your body's alignment and put your body back in balance. It's when your body fall out of balance, the simple shifting of your body's weight causes stress, tension, and aches causing neck pain and back pain.

For back pain exercises to work properly, it's important that you find a practitioner or therapist that will create a custom exercise program for you. This does not have to be expensive ... in fact, I've had a tremendous experience with the Egoscue Method (http://www.egoscue.com/) using their custom online exercise menus.

Something else to consider, successful back and neck pain elimination is often a multi-strategy approach (physical, nutritional, and emotional) - for example, simple changes in your diet could make a world of difference towards living a pain-free life (and having more energy that you could even dream of!)!

I hope this helps!

To your great health,
Charlie
