Aside from sleeping, what can I do to ease cluster headaches?
I feel like pulling my eyeball out!
For you Fez: Brielfy and abbreviated from Wikipedia... Cluster headaches are extremely painful, unilateral headaches of a piercing quality. The duration of the common attack is 15 minutes to three hours. Onset of an attack is rapid, and most often without the preliminary signs that are characteristic of a migraine... Though the headaches are almost exclusively unilateral, there are many documented cases of "side-shifting" between cluster periods, or, even rarer, simultaneously (within the same cluster period) bilateral headache.
The degree of pain involved in cluster headaches is markedly greater than in other headache conditions, including migraine. It has been described by female patients as being more severe than childbirth. The pain is lancinating or boring in quality, and is located behind the eye or in the temple... An analogy frequently used to describe the pain is that it is like a red-hot poker inserted into the eye.

1. My daughter has the same problem. She is now 24 and has been like that since she was 10 years old. We took her to all different doctors without success. Even had braces on her teeth because one doctor thought it was her teeth/jaw alighnment. It turns out she has a version of migranes, but not the one with all the nausea, spots before the eyes etc. Because she didn't exhibit the typical signs, every doctor until now has got it wrong. Migrane medication is the way to go. You need to find the right doctor. Good luck.
2. I get 'em all the time my lady, sleep of course is the best thing but... I usually just eat something solid, drink some coffee and take some ibuprofin... hope ya feel better.
;-)
3. Check out Cluster headaches under Yahoo for treatments & medications (there is tons of information there) I just typed in cluster headaches. You will find a lot of different things that could help you & your headaches & I should know I've suffered from severe migranes for over 20 yrs. Best of Luck to you!!
4. Butalbital/APAP/Caffine prescription medication works for me.
5. What are cluster headaches?
okay -- I know I will get thumbs down for this...
Oh My! I have had these then...but hey! If it is less painful than childbirth I have one less thing to worry about. lol
I'd love to know other remedies. I just sleep too and it seems like such a waste sometimes.
6. Not sure what cluster headaches are, but whenever I feel a headache coming on, I put on a pot for some peppermint tea. Peppermint oil does wonders for headaches. If you can find any oil, or peppermint tea, this might help you. Also, watch the weather and see if your headaches come around when the barometric pressure drops or raises. My aunt gets migraines and she said that when she gets one, it coincides with high pressure. You can't change the weather of course, but it might let you prepare for a migraine.
I got one migraine that started out as a blind spot in my right eye, and the spot grew. Was really weird! My aunt told me it was a migraine without the pain. After a while it got flashy and my head started to hurt a bit so I laid down and took a nap. Was odd.
7. Oh dear. I suffer from migraine headaches. I found drinking water very good. I take Advil and it also helps. I sometimes take a nap but most of the time I don't do anything because I have to study so I force myself to study while having that strong pain and the pain goes after killing without any aids.
I hope you feel ok.
Salaam
8. dime the lights and get off the computer
9. Have you tried every migraine medication? I know of one woman who didn't find one that worked until the seventh one:
Topomax, Imitrex, Fioricet or Fiorinal, Midrin, Maxalt, Relpax, Zomig, Frova, Acular, Axert, Anaprox, and Orudis. Please give them all a chance. Beez is taking Fioricet.^^^
Trigger foods you want to stay from are chocolate, cheese, oranges, and red wine. I sincerely wish you the best of luck. :)
10. Pl try simple acupressure given below first.
There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES,
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.
For forehead pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.
It may disappear naturally too.
