Minimalist to Normal Running shoe transition causing knee pain?

I ran an entire XC season wearing Kinvara 2s with no problems and a few months back I decided to get some regular Asics running shoes because I felt that the Kinvaras wore out too fast. After doing some sprint workouts in them my left knee started hurting. It cracks and grinds when I rotate it and move it around.

Could it be because of my shoes? Should I keep running in them or get something like the Kinvara again?

1. You have runner's knee. You may be heel-striking because of the bulkier heel in your new shoes. You went from a 4mm heel-to-toe offset to a 12 mm.
