How bad did you feel with hypothyroidism?

I am a 50 yr old male and was diagnosed as having "severe fibromyalgia." It's not the correct diagnosis. The MDs missed it, and I've been suffering a long time. How they missed it for so long is beyond me. I am waiting for treatment now for hypothyroidism. My basal body temp is 96 - 97 degrees with a myriad of other symptoms including severe pain.

I feel absolutely horrible and suffer chronic severe exhaustion as well. It is genuine misery, and I can't even remember feeling normal much less good. I've been unable to enjoy anything at all. How bad have you others with hypothyroidism felt? Mine feels like a constant and never ending severe flu. And how improved are you after correct treatment?

Many thanks.

1. that is a VERY common experience....and people get mad at me when I suggest that they should do research and try to confirm the diagnosis on their own..so many people blindly follow doctors------

even when people have 'all the tests'---common issues are often missed......fms has a high rate of misdiagnosis, but it does happen with other conditions

for example--i injured my knee when I was 13---for years the docs said I was fine---20 years later--my knee is severely damaged from lack of treatment...

most of the thyroid meds don't work right--they metabolize unevenly--only one--I think synthroid--works right.....

you should see significant improvement, but will probably still have symptoms...

you do need to test to see if you might also have fms..

while they can co occur .there is an extremely high right of overdiagnosis when the primary issue is a thyroid problem

2. You are NOT alone, by no means. Many of us have suffered this severely. There are some that maybe caught it early & got treatment early that have much less severe symptoms but I can tell you .... Mine were just this bad. I am being treated now & many are getting better. BTW, Fibro & CFS can be a part of it too. I am sure that I have them both ... no need to test because this is even much worse.

If you are put on Synthroid, ask for Cytomel as well. You should also take Selenium, Folic Acid, D3, Zinc, and B Complex. You take the Synthroid 1st thing, on an empty stomach & do not eat for 1/2 hr.

Here are some general info & links for you:
TSH ‘norm’ should be .3 – 3 (w/ most feeling best at < 2) but, for diagnosis, would not matter if ANTIBODIES are present. Indicative of Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis (cycles between hyper & hypo at start)…main cause of eventual HypOthyroidism & is worse (...OR Graves Disease - HypERthyroid).

WARNING: Doctors seem not to want to find/treat thyroid disease. You may have to go to more than one doctor before you get the right tests, interpretation, and treatment. Best wishes.
