Medicine for a cluster headache?

Just found out I have a cluster headache. A spot on the left side of my head hurts once in a while then stops and then happens again. I also have a stuffy nose.. Those are the symptoms I read about and I have them both, so I have a cluster headache.. What medicine should I take to help cure it?? Everyday in class I go up to blow my nose every 3 minutes and Its embarrassing and the left side hurts and throbs :( Any advice?

1. The best known intervention is supplemental O2 treatment at 6-8L a minute. This is how they are treated at the hospital. If that is unsuccessful try analgesics non-opiod first then move to opiod analgesics such as Demerol or lortab. Avoid alcohol on analgesics though can cause liver damage.

2. Inhaled Oxygen at 15lpm is the best and safest abortive for cluster headaches. Talk with your doctor to see if you can get imitrex injections or tablets to stop the headache in its tracks. I would never suggest opiods for treatment of a cluster headache as usually this is an ineffective way to manage the pain.

If you have no other method - using an antihistamine can help bring down the inflammation of the vascular structures next to the trigeminal nerve.
