Do you think the world would be better if the "old rules" still applied today?
Scenario: Jack goes quail hunting before school, pulls into school parking lot with shotgun in gun rack.
1967 - Vice principal comes over to look at Jack's shotgun. He goes to his own car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.
2007 - School goes into lock-down, and FBI is called. Jack is hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.
Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1967 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up best friends.
2007 - Police called. SWAT team arrives. Johnny and Mark are arrested and charged with assault. Both are expelled even though Johnny started it.
Scenario: Jeffrey won't be still in class, disrupts other students.
1967 - Jeffrey sent to office and given a good paddling by the
Principal. He returns to class, sits still, and does not disrupt class again.
2007 - Jeffrey is diagnosed with A.D.D. and given huge doses of Ritalin, becomes a zombie. School gets extra money from State because Jeffrey has a learning disability.
Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1967 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to
college, and becomes a successful businessman.
2007 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is placed in
foster care and joins a gang. State psychologist convinces Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself, and their dad goes to prison. Billy's Mom has affair with psychologist.
Scenario: Mark has a headache and brings some aspirin to school.
1967 - Ma rk takes aspirin in lunchroom and headache goes away.
2007 - Police called. Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. Car is searched for drugs and weapons.
Scenario: Pedro fails English in high school.
1967 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English, goes to college.
2007 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given a diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.
Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane pa int bottle, blows up a fire ant hill.
1967 - Ants die.
2007 - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Homeland Security, and FBI called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates parents; siblings are removed from home; computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad goes on Terror Watch List and is never allowed to fly again.
Scenario: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is f ound crying by his teacher who hugs him to comfort him.
1967 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2007 - Teacher is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces three years in state prison. Johnny undergoes five years of therapy.
AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY THIS COUNTRY IS SUCH A MESS ... DUHHHHHH!!

2. I don't believe you old rules should apply today. You have selected only a handful of rules. Society changes, thus, the law has to adapt to it's change.
Can you imagine the amount of taxes you'll be paying for death penalties occuring?

unfortunately kids arent raised with examples of the old school anymore to pattern their lives after, or admire.
it gets hard to still say "God bless the land of the free" when we save the trees and kill the babies, drug the grade schoolers and tell them that "nothing is totally wrong, there are just different view points" in high school teach safe sex and ''we'll cover for you to your parents'', instead of self respect.
thats why I homeschool.
And I am involved in a large homeschool co-op with parents who feel the same way.
6. Such a one sided statement you are making. Let's try this now.
Scenario: Johnny is told to stay after school by his female teacher for whatever reason.
1967- Johnny is sexually molested/raped by his teacher. He goes home and tells his parents...they don't believe him and tell him that 'your teacher wouldn't do something like that.' he must find a way to deal with this the rest of his life (if he can) and deal with his teacher for as long as he is attending that particular school.
2007- Johnny tells his parents and they have the teacher arrested which keeps the teacher from troubling other students and keeps Johnny from further abuse.
Scenario: 4 masked men go into a store in a rural part of the USA and rob the store, shoot the owner and clerks.
1967- 4 unknowing and uneducated minorities are arrested and sentenced to death without DNA tests.
2007- 4 unknowing minorities are arrested and but released after DNA tests. The public finds out that minorities weren't responsible.
Scenario: Julie finds out as a teenager that she likes to write about romance novels and enjoys learning about sexual related topics but lives in a very strict, religious household.
1967- Julie's father finds the novels and tells the Priests. Julie is now an outcast and shunned in her community and church because she 'strayed' from a forced social/religious norm.
2007- Julie's father finds the novels and has her mother join the conversation about sex and being sexually responsible. However, her 'interests' are more openly accepted by her parents because they realized that she is growing into a woman and sex is a natural part of life.
Maybe people should stop having an 'Us against them' mentality and try to actually make things better for [all] the citizens instead of preaching in a divisive manner.
'Old way' or 'new way' doesn't matter. The majority of us know the difference between right and wrong.
