Can too much ab exercises lead to lower back pain?

I've been doing a lot of ab exercises lately at the gym, and now I've got some killer lower back pain. Could too much ab exercise and not enough back exercise be the cause? I feel like a 90 yr old man right now squirming in my chair because it hurts.

Classic sit-ups are not a part of my routine either. I do crunches on the work-out ball, and do hanging leg raises

1. It happens. Take a break for a while. Next time do slower contractions. Doing sit-ups will also increase back strength, but maybe do some romanian dead lifts with free weights. It is a good combo for me.

2. Don't do crunches. I used to do them and had the same problem Read these:
