Is it alright to have a leg amputated to get rid of frequent knee pain?

I think that this may be a way to permanently solve my knee pain.
Also, I know what is most likely causing my knee pain. It is probably my weight. I weigh somewhere between 310 and 320 and am 6'1". I am 22 years old.

1. NO! Lose weight, have bypass surgery. That is drastic but not as much as amputation.

2. no doc will do it......ur putting alotta weight on ur joints and sure it may just be one now, but there is potential for the same to happen on ur other knee.....believe me, you don.t wanna have an amputated leg....

3. No doctor will do that, but it sounds like you are on your way to knee replacements if you do not rectify your weight. You don't want to lose your knees. It will decrease your quality of life significantly.

4. Ok...well let me say that i am not going to be one of the insensitive people and razz you about your weight because i am somewhere close to the same. I am 21...i dont have the knee problems as bad as you are describing but i do have arthritis in my knees. It only bothers me in moist cold weather. I would discuss with your doctor some pain management problems, physical therapy, cortisone shots, and i am sure there are lots of things you can do to fix this besides amputation. besides if you do wanna get healthy how will you do that with one leg??? And please dont just jump to weight loss surgery. Weigh your options first. If you wanna get some good info tho, go to the website www.obesityhelp.com and become a member. Its completely free and will help you with a variety of problems. I hope all goes well and good luck!!!
