my 12 yr old daughter hit the back of her head in a pool today. should i be worried about a concussion?

She has a headache, but no other symptoms.

Public Comments

1. The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be subtle and may not be immediately apparent. Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even longer.

The most common symptoms after a concussive traumatic brain injury are headache, amnesia and confusion. The amnesia, which may or may not be preceded by a loss of consciousness, almost always involves the loss of memory of the impact that caused the concussion.

Signs and symptoms of a concussion may include:

Headache or a feeling of pressure in the head
Temporary loss of consciousness
Confusion or feeling as if in a fog
Amnesia surrounding the traumatic event
Dizziness or "seeing stars"
Ringing in the ears
Nausea or vomiting
Slurred speech
Fatigue

Also, if she passed out at all, she should go straight to the ER.
If you're still worried, a trip to the doctor's wouldn't hurt.

2. Give her medication and if you can, call your doctor. If the headache continues, I would take her to the hospital.

3. Go get her checked out asap. A sign of a concussion doesn't come imediantly all the time. Its better to have her looked at then waiting and having any symptoms get worse.
Hope this helps! Best of luck:)
