Does Cymbalta work for you? 10 points best answer!?

Hi all! I was curious to know if anybody has taken Cymbalta and what their side-effects were and if you had any withdrawals from stopping the medication? I have been taking prozac since middle school, and that is when my weight gain started. I just found out that Cymbalta is a very good appetite suppressant, which I definitely need, I eat a lot! All day, everyday. Also I have Fibromyalgia and was told that Cymbalta is a very good medication for it. So I was thinking about trying it, but I found that some people when they quit the medication, that they had horrible withdrawals from it. I'm curious to know approximately how many people have experienced that and would also like to know if it helped anybody with weight-loss and did the medication work for either your depression and/or Fibromyalgia? The person who answers these questions will receive 10 points!!!! But any help would be greatly appreciated!
I should add that I want details, not one sentence answers. I want to know everything that you went through with Cymbalta. I'm not going to start a medication not knowing what it can or cannot do to you. I need to know all details.

These are the sites from which I got my information. I know that everybody has a different reaction to medications, but I just want to get a generalized idea of what to expect, how I might possibly feel, and see if there is a common overwhelming side-effect that could kill me or something like that. I took Welbutrin before, it gave me severe panic attacks to where I had to go to the hospital and receive high doses of valuum. I'm trying to eliminate a medication. I take Percocet for the pain and I take prozac for depression and loratadine for allergies. If I take Cymbalta, I can eliminate the percocet and the prozac and only take two pills a day instead of three. The percocet helps a lot but my body gets used to them to fast and I am getting to the point where I am taking 5 a day. I need to get rid of that medication because I want to take

1. I take Cymbalta all the time, it is great.

10 points please :)

2. no, there are many more effective anti-depressants

10 points please

3. made it impossible for me as a girl to orgasm. That was almost as bad as the depression.

4. Hi Tiff, I have been taking Cymbalta for about 5 years. I started it to help with side effects from breast cancer treatment and have been on ever since. I have not seen any side effects whatsoever. The bad news for you is that I can't tell that it has had any appetite effects either. It might have and I didn't notice. My long-term cancer drug is horrible about causing weight gain. My gain was moderate. About withdrawals: It definitely does cause bad withdrawals if you try to stop without help or cold turkey. I made the mistake of trying that. I also have fibromyalgia and knew that my symptoms had been pretty well quiet for a while. When I confessed to my doctor that I had quit Cymbalta and was in trouble, he informed me that the main reason he wanted me to continue now that my cancer treatment is over was to treat the fibromyalgia. My one criticism of the drug is the price. It is expensive, but if your insurance plan will handle it, I would certainly recommend it. By the way, my husband is bi-polar and his psychiatrist has him on it to control the depression side.

5. where did you hear it suppresses appetite? there is a big problem with weight gain

Savella is similar to Cymbalta, but supposedly doesn't have the weight gain..

lexapro and wellbutrin combo may work

6. You really cannot base your decision whether or not to take this medication on what others have experienced while on it. The reason being is that any particular antidepressant can affect people very differently.

I took Cymbalta and was a complete psycho bitch from hell!! On the other hand, my cousin took it and it worked very well for her. She too has fibromyalgia and it helped her in that regard as well.

Cymbalta is an SSNRI. I didn't experience any withdrawal, since I immediately switched to another drug in a similar class (SSRI). I took Prozac for a few years, yet stopped taking it several months ago as I lost my health insurance and could no longer afford it. It was nothing less than sheer hell getting off of this med. My doctor said (and I am just going on her word) that withdrawal from an SSNRI is even worse. My advice to you is if you start taking any med which is either an SSRI or SSNRI, be prepared to take it for life. If you stop one, and begin taking another, you generally will not experience withdrawal.

Now that I once again have insurance, I am taking Wellbutrin. (It is neither an SSRI nor SSNRI) It is a good appetite suppressant....but I haven't been taking it long enough to determine if it's going to help my depression. Wellbutrin is often prescribed along with SSRI's and SSNRI's to augment these meds as well as to offset the negative side effects such as lowered libido, difficulty in reaching orgasm, and weight gain.

Amitriptyline and Nortriptyline may also be worth looking into. These are older antidepressents (tricyclic antidepressants) which also help with pain. My mother takes Nortriptyline for neuropathy.

7. I battle with moderate depression normally & am bipolar & have been on MANY antidepressants.I also have Fibromyalgia & am tired all of the time.I have always been a little overweight since being an adult by about 40 pounds. When I tried Cymbalta I was very seriously depressed & when I get depressed I normally eat more & gain more weight sleeping alot.Although I only took it 6 months I did seem to remember having more energy (although maybe from being slightly "manic"?) less ache's & dropped 50 pounds effortlessly which I had tried with every pill or other weight loss plan with no success & that was an added bonus obviously.I did however stop taking it because if anything it was making my mental state worse as far as logic.I was doing things totally unlike me & being really reckless & "numb".It made me a real fruit loop & my loved ones begged me to stop taking it which made me almost insane in the month I was coming off of it.I gained weight back almost immediately also although everything there is just the same. So my opinion would be is it really did seem to be a really cool drug IF your mind is compatible with it....mine was not unfortunately.
