1. It sounds like you had a plain old headache. Tension headaches usually occur at the top & back of the head, and also usually involve the neck muscles. A migraine, however, will lay you out flat! It's a very intense headache that can last for days. It can be aggrivated by certain odors, sounds, lights, etc. Nothing but medicine prescribed specifically for migraines will help it. In severe cases, the person can also experience nose bleeds & vomiting. Trust me, if you've never had a migraine headache, you'll know right away when you do get one!
2. Sam, I can help you with this one as I suffer from migraines myself! I have also had plenty of tension headaches as well.
With migraines, my eyes become very sensitive to any form of light! The light "kills" my eyes and worsens the pain. They make me nauseated at times as well. Mine, make me feel sick, even if I have NO fever! No over the counter medication has ever rid me of a migraine! EVER! I refuse to take the pain pills the doctor gave me and so, I use damp wrags on my forehead and stay in a dimly lit room...with NO noise at all! I also take tylenol and that only takes the edge off the pain!
The tension headaches, can be treated with tylenol. True, it might come back but, I try to relax, after taking the tylenol and pray for the best!
3. usually when i have a migraine i have really bad nausea
sometimes i actually do vomit
i have a metal taste in my mouth
and i can't be around any lights
with headaches- they're just painful and go away quickly w/Tylenol
migraines are almost like a throbbing pain
there are also aura migraines that happen w/no pain- the first time it happened to me- i thought i was losing my mind- aura migraines are usually associated with seeing bright lights
