Fast sharp headache back of the head?

I woke up feeling a bit nauseated and chalked it up to hunger. Ate something and felt better but then I started getting small intermittent headaches. They happen for less than 5 seconds behind my head just where the head meets the neck. I took some Tylenol and that took away some of the intensity away. The nausea continued and I finally vomited and felt much better.
Since then the pains have been less frequent and less sharp. Could this be an ear infection or flu?
I usually get the nausea as part of PMS (sometimes hunger too) and I am due for my period in a few days but I've never gotten those sharp pains.
