3. Spend $75 and get a head to toe massage.
4. do you have to take meds for them everyday, cause if you do, you'll start getting rebound headaches. If not, then meditate, or do something that brings you peace.
5. The majoe source of tension headaches is over use of the muscles that support your head. The muscles in your neck, shoulders and below must support the weight and use of you head and arms all day long. The tightness and soreness that you feel tells you that these muscles were over used during your day. At night you need to relax these muscles by using hot water in a bath or shower or add a heating pad used on medium heat for 20 minutes. This will increase circulation to the brain ane the muscles. Massage them your self by hand or with a massager. Then use an ice pack or gel pack that you put in the freezer. This will also help to reduce the lactic acid which builds up in the muscle. During you day use a break to do stretching exercises. Also bend over at the waist several times to increase blood flow to your brain, neck and shoulders. Also swing your arms around in a circle several times to pump blood to your neck. You must learn preventative measures to not let the muscles become so tense. That and emotional stress are the source of your tension headaches. Prayer and music are also very helpful to relax before bed. Try to turn yourself upside down from the bed slowly as this sends blood flowing to your head and neck. But go slowly. Gradually you should be able to do handstands with your feet on the wall. This is a great natural release and help. Get an exercise program or swim to help keep you looser and relaxed every chance you get. JP
6. i would recommend seeing a chiropractor, especially if you've never tried that route before. many times headaches (especially tension headaches) are caused by misalignments of the vertebrae in your neck. these vertebrae have many muscles that attach to them which then go up and are also connected to the skull (ex-splenius captius). when the vertebra that the muscles are attached to are not in the correct position, it causes an imbalance in those muscles which causes them to spasm, or be chronically tense--depending on how long the vertebra has been out of alignment.
this misalignment can also put pressure on the nerves exiting the spine in that area, which causes a pinched nerve. this nerve then is over-stimulated and causes whatever it controls to be over-stimulated, in this case the muscles which then spasm. this can also cause referred pain, numbness, tingling, or tension into to the shoulders or even all the way down the arms.
these spasms in the muscles of the neck then cause headaches (since many are attached to skull). many times it's originally caused by a previous car accident (whiplash), poor posture over time (sitting at a computer 40 hours a week), stress, etc. a chiropractor will be able to determine the cause, find these misalignments, and correct them to restore the correct position of the spine--therefore relieving the muscle tension and the headaches. which then will allow YOU to get a good night's rest and have that energy again!
7. For headache on the forehead or temples, stimulate a pressure point with finger or eraser of pencil. The point is on the wrist where pulse is taken, but just a little higher toward the elbow.
If entire forehead aches, stimulate the points on both wrists, if only one side hurts like the right side, stimulate point on opposite wrist (like on the left wrist -- or vice versa).
For headache on nape of neck and back of head, the effective point is on the little finger side of the hand. Half bend your hand and the point is at the "head line" crease, the bone on side of hand, you will feel slight pain when you press on the spot, stimulate that point. Again, stimulate right hand if your pain is on the left, vice versa, or both for all over.
This actually works because I tried it yesterday. Got book from the library. May actually buy this one... Half.com has for 75 cents plus shipping
