1. Stretch everyday. One good stretch is to stand with your legs a good distance apart and reach one arm down to the opposite leg.
2. walk alot. It is a stress reducer also. Also take a hot shower as hot as you can stand it and pound water on you back.
3. Sit in a cross legged position with your back straight (sit on a folded blanket or towel if you need to). Place left hand on right knee and place right hand just behind you. As you inhale extend up wards and as you exhale turn gently to right. Repeat on other side.
If its an ongoing problem find yourself an Iyengar yoga teacher who will be trained to help deal with such problems.
4. Exercise can be the key to recovery from back pain, as well as a good prevention against future pain. Lie flat on the floor, face up, then pull the knees to the chest and grasp them with your hands. Gently rock back and forth on the lower back in that position to massage the area and to stretch it out.
5. If you are suffering from back pain at the moment, stay gently mobile and use ice on the painful area. If the pain does not subside soon, it might be an idea to go and see your doctor or someone like a chiropractor so they can examine and advise on a course of action - this might include treatment and advice about exercises that are suitable for your particular situation.
