1. In my experience, effective treatment of fibromyalgia includes promotion of adequate amounts of restful sleep (with pharmaceutical agents used to facilitate sleep when necessary) and a graded program of increase in physical activity. Supportive psychotherapy aimed at coping mechanisms to deal with chronic illness/pain is helpful for some patients as well. Adjunctive medication treatment with agents like pregabalin (Lyrica), amitriptyline, gabapentin, etc. may be helpful, BUT my experience has been that patients who are treated with any of these medications in isolation from other, non-medication based therapeutic techniques rarely get sustained benefit.
