How do you get rid of a horrible headache, possible migraine headache?

My boyfriend has had an awful headache for the past twelve hours.. nothing seems to help, not even sleep. It's at the top of his head and he says it like pulses or something everything his heart beats. What could have caused it and how can we make it go away?? Thanks

1. Knock him unconscious...j/k. I'd take some tylenol pm and go to sleep and then wake up refreshed and head ache free.

2. Wow, as a person who suffers from migraines, I totally feel his pain. What he can do is to take excedrin migraine, that is the only thing I know of over the counter that really works for migraines. Additionally, he can try a moist heat pack applied to the back of the neck 15 mins on once every hour, it may release the spasming muscles if its a tension related headache. If his pain doesn't go away within a few hours or it worsens in any way or he begins to vomit, please get him to the emergency room for proper treatment. I hope he feels better soon...Good luck!
In the future, he can look at this website for information on migraines and available treatments: http://www.migraines.org

3. For a migrane head ache the only thing to do is take a pain killer such as Neurofen Plus ( i take these for my migranes )
once youve taken the pill, suggusted you take two, go to sleep.

When you wake up it is generally gone. Sleep is important in healing the body so keep trying!

Good Luck.

4. He needs to find out if it is really a migraine. He may require a script for something stronger if over the counter meds don't help.

5. ...at the top of his head...
sounds like allergies/sinus infection.
usually, with allergies/sinus infection the face hurts, too.
there are massage techniques to help; it might need to run it's course or get some medication for infection.
