How to relieve back pain during pregnancy?
I'm 22 weeks pregnant with severe back pain.
I have tried ice packs, heat packs, hot shower pounding on my back, changing positions and walking around. My partner works nights so I can't get him to give me a massage. What else can I do to relieve the pain?

1. Avoid lying with your back, you may rest sideways.
2. Warm baths. That's my relief because I found that the showers never did the trick and my fiance was too hard on my back so it hurt so badly when he tried to massage it. But as soon as I laid down the bath my back would stop hurting and i would just feel so comfortable and relaxed. I am 32 weeks pregnant now and I still do it because it not only helps my back now but also my pelvis.
3. The heating pad is my friend right now. I sit alot and so I have my heating pad on my chair. I've actually found that by using it all day, I also sleep better at night because my back isn't stiff and sore. If you don't have a heating pad, maybe you could try a hot water bottle.
4. I really felt it in my back and hips even early on this last time. The doc said I need to wear supportive shoes and also do stretches. It could be the baby weight so if you are able to stand in a pool and feel that boyency its great! The weightlessness is niiiice:)
You can look into gentle adjustments with a trained massage therapist or chiroprator. Just make sure that they are certified to do prenatal care or it can be damaging. You may have something out of place. So much goes on as the baby grows... i know all about that.
Lay with pillows to your hips are supported. Make sure there is one between your knees and put them where you need for your back. Hips and back are connected. Chances are you will feel it in your hips too if not already.
I would not suggest having anyone pound on your back as that can be dangerous. Do talk to your doc or nurse/midwife. They may have some more suggestions. My doc also had me get a maternity belt and I found that helpful. You can do that or wrap an ace bandage. Crossing in front and then the back however many times it fits. Support is nice and can relieve back pain.
All in all you just have to try different things. It could be something out of whack, could be muscle pain or pinched nerve. It could just be the weight of the baby. Try to sit up straight when you're sitting. My doc reminds me that good posture helps too. I agree with the tub idea just make sure the water is warm and not hot.. obviously:)
Sorry you're hurting. I pray you get some relief soon.
Best of luck and blessings :)
5. I have come to realize my back starts to hurt when I sit down for long periods of times. I work at a desk and the strain of "good posture" or just sittin on my butt period is causing my back aches.. Resting your back by laying down could help.
6. At 22 weeks your baby is continuously growing. At this stage your baby looks like a miniature new born. As your baby grows your belly also expands. You may also notice that people are always touching your tummy. Stretch marks are starting to appear too. It is important to visit your OBGYNE to constantly monitor the growth and development of your baby inside your womb.
