What can I do about a migraine headache ?

Well I have been dealing with this migraine for about 3 weeks now. I have gone to the doctors and they gave me T3's. Last night I called 911 because it was so bad. I haven't been sleeping because of the pain. I have had migraines in the past but not this bad or for this long.

*PLEASE HELP!!!!* Does anyone have ideas as to what to do or what maybe causing it?

1. I can empathize with your pain, and hope you find an answer, SOON!

I have migraines and take Propranolol for them and they have all but disappeared. I might suggest you ask your Dr if this med is right for you...?

2. my mother would always sniff parsley to help ease the pain.

3. not to scare you or making you worry, but from what i am hearing you may want to get a cat-scan or something down cause you may have something pushing down on your optic nerve causing your vision to be distorted which could cause you to have headaches or something worse could be going on in there. If i were you i would get some tests done

4. bang your head! (metal health)

5. You need a cat scan. I get them right around the time of my cycle and they are horribly painful to the point of tears, I finally went to doctor who prescribed Relpax.

6. i've heard that people that get migraines that bad have had brain tumors! i think you should go to the doctors and get every kind of test you can have done(the first a cat scan). That way you can be sure to know whats really going on with your head. in the mean time just have a lot of rest and keep taking your medications!

7. I get them terribly as well and I take Darvacet for them and have to take a hot bath or sit in a steam room to alleviate them

8. I know that I get AWFUL migraine's, but the only thing that helps me is taking Ibuprofen and piggybacking (also taking it) with some Tylenol PM. I'm out like a light and when I wake up, the migraine's not as bad. Then when I take another dose of both of those, its gone. In the meantime, if it really worsens, and that doesn't help, maybe talk to a specialist? They can probably get you some prescription medication that would help more than over-the-counter's would (:

Hope you feel better!!!

9. Drink caffeine......drink yourself a high caffeine energy drink or drink strong coffee....caffeine has been proven to relieve a migraine.

10. I get them a lot due to a cavernous angioma in my temporal lobe and when I start seeing the "aura", I take a darvocet and it usually takes care of it. If that doesn't work (because oddly enough one of the side effects of darvocet is headache) I might add a 400mg ibuprofen.

On a side note, you might need glasses or better ones. You also may have ingested or breathed in something you are allergic to.

You might want to look into seeing your family doc to get help for this. Unfortunately the ER in most cities won't do much for a migraine. =/

11. I get migraines also my DR. gave me Fiorcet it worked really well, but i also take propranolol but it's for my heart condition,it controls the rhythm of my heart and how fast it beats,so i don't know if that would help you. Also a cold washcloth across your forehead, from your temple all the way to the other. But really go to your doctor.good luck

12. ok this sounds crazy, but it worked for me. beleive me. get 3 aspro- clears. they are asparins that dissovle in water. regular ones dont work. then put these in a glass of water and wait for them to dissolve. then drink! its gross... anyway, i was sure this wasnt going to work. i mean, its just asparin right? WRONG! well actually.... it might be right... and by that i mean it is right. it is just asparin. but somehow it does the trick.. jsut remember it must be dissolvable asparin.

btw from one migrane sufferer to another: good luck and there is one more peice of information that i found interesting that pertains to migranes. i dont know where you stand on drugs, but i know for a scientific fact that acid/ LSD stops a migrane dead in its tracks.. im not suggesting you use it because it is a dangerous and illigal drug.. but its jsut an interesting peice of information.... you know..... if you were interested....

13. actually there are different types of migraines...as a medical practitioner

- MIGRAINE without AURA (common migraine) - this migraine is much more common. this due to dilation of the blood vessel walls. it is severe unilateral, pulsating pain that is frequently accompanied with nausea, vomitting and sensitivity to light and sound

- MIGRAINE with AURA (classic migraine) - migraine with aura is simply the same as the common migraine but having signs before your migraine starts like; wavy or jagged lines, dots or flashing lights, tunnel vision or blind spots. this usually occurs about one-half hour before the pain begins

since it has a SIGN...it is much more easier to predict and to cure it. by taking MIGRAINE meds in advance.

one standard cure for migraine was acute analgesia or fast acting involving a narcotic. together with control of lighting and sound and with the use of ERGOT DERIVATIVE drugs.
- Dihydroergotamine/Migranal -- IM or IV or Nasal Spray drug
- Ergotamine/cafergot
- Methysergide/Sansert - it is slow onset drug and long duration of action

try to ask your doctor about treatments

14. 1) Modern medicine has no idea of the cause of migraine pain; they are dumbfounded.

2) In antiquity they knew the actual cause of migraines. More than 3,500 years ago the author of the Ebers Papyrus correctly indicated the cause of a migraine as that of a spirit. The 'malady of half the head' is also indicated in another medical text, the Lyden Papyrus. Today, these diagnoses are thought to be "superstitions." They are not!

Let's look at some of the remarkable symptoms associated with migraines. Many migraineurs experience auras during the prodromal phase. Visual aura (the display of colorful, scintillating, geometric lines and shapes) is often observed. Modern medicine is dumbfounded by what could be the cause. The Bible is filled with references to migraine visual aura (the serpents). Visual aura is caused by a spirit, for hypnotic purposes - to change behavior. Other aura symptoms are experienced; like, goose flesh (as a result of feeling sudden cold - caused by a spirit), and tingling skin (the result of a spirit being in physical contact). Also, why is migraine often applied asymmetrically to the head - at one unlikely spot? Why does the focus of migraine pain move in a moment sometimes? Why does some migraine pain throb, neither in concert with nor at the same frequency as pulse? The answer is that an unseen spirit is causing these movement symptoms. The ancient Egyptians were correct!!!

So, what is going on, and why would a spirit be doing this? First, contrary to popular opinion spirits are benevolent and are here to help us. Migraine pain is used, generally but not in every case, as a form of discipline as the result of sinful behavior. Everyone thinks that they are righteous and well behaved, but in reality we are all awful. However, some are better than others. These more righteous individuals are the saints. The halos on the heads of saints in art are depictions of the Holy Spirits. These spirits help the saint through life by changing behavior, sometimes forcibly. Therefor, you are one of these saints and regardless of how you feel, your migraine is a blessing.

As confirmation of what I have said, attempt the following: First, hold and open and relaxed hand above, but not touching, the focus of the pain. You should feel a staticy/tingling sensation, which is evidence of the spirit. Next you should converse with it, which is easier than you think. How you talk to yourself, in your mind, is how one talks to a spirit. You will hear its responses in your mind as well. At the first attempts at telepathy some might think that the responses come from their own mind, they do not. Surely you are telepathic.

Do not be uncourteous or angry with this spirit as it is helping you.

15. Talk to your Dr. about rebound headaches. T3's are notorious for causing these. Unfortunately, when you take this medication, you do get some relief, but when it wears off, you start to have withdrawal effects which includes a headache, and this headache keeps getting worse.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that only addicts suffer from withdrawal. Anyone on opiates can suffer from this, even after only short term use.
Also, don't worry about the tumor thing. I found that my migraines get worse at certain times of the year, and I've had times in my life where they have been worse.
It's tough, but try to deal with your migraine without taking analgesics. I did this, and wanted to die, the migraines so bad, but after a few days, it subsided, and now, I get very few attacks.

16. I get them bad too, but not 911-bad. Through tracking my symptoms daily and charting them over time, I've been able to determine mine are primarily hormonal linked. I track the time of day, onset, offset, amount of sleep, how food or exercise affects them and a huge list of other possible contributors. This can be tedious, but it is so worth it if you want to identify a source. I have used Maxalt for pain relief and that works like a charm. BUt still you would only be treating the symptom, and it's better to find/fix the cause.
I recently joined a scientific team that is opening up research for the public to help each other (very much like the yahoo forums here, but more systematized for health conditions with treatment reviews, symptom correlation, tracking tools etc.) You can see what treatments other people are saying worked and didn't for their migraines right now: http://www.curetogether.com/Migraine/_treatment/
You can also compare your specific symptom % with others through the main page: http://www.curetogether.com/Migraine/
I hope this helps you.
