Any unconventional migraine headache remedies?
I"ve had a steady headache for about 5 days now.
Usually I'll take some maxalt(migraine medication) and naproxen(aleve) and it'll be gone within about an hour. Although its been helping, the headache returns a couple hours later. I've since tried ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
I've gotten to the point where I just don't kow what else to do anymore!

1. I drink milk, but mine are related to blood sugar levels.
sounds like yours might be different.
2. you could check with the 24 hour nurse hotline. They have registered nurses available to answer questions like this anonymously. The number is 1-877-825-5276. Good luck
3. I've had migraines all of my life and tried everything under the sun. What I now use, and it works EVERYTIME is a prescription drug called Amerge. It doesn't come in a generic, so they are a little on the "pricey" side, but worth it. If you have a family doctor you can call, ask him/her if that might be right for you. If they agree, ask them just to order a small amount (maybe 5 tablets) so you don't have a huge investment in them. They are not a "pain pill"....they treat the source of migraines which is why they work so well. Good luck!
4. I personally use Imitrex and Toradol for migraines.
HOWEVER, my sister SWEARS by sticking your feet in cold water in the bathtub...theory being that, it pulls the blood flow away from your head (and cerebral blood flow is a/the major contributor in migraine pain). I know it sounds a little cheesy, but it HAS worked for the both of us in the past...it can't hurt to give it a try at least!
When I have patients with headaches/migraines, I give them ice packs to the back of the neck or cool wash cloths to the forehead, and those seem to help as well.
Good luck!
5. If you have an understanding that your migraine is caused by a spirit, you will not have a remedy, but a solution.
Try holding an open and relaxed hand over, but not touching, your head. You will feel a tingling sensation, which will be the spirit. Then talk with this spirit. How you talk to yourself, in your mind, is how one converses with a spirit. Try thinking, "hello." You will hear its responses in your mind as if you thought them. This phenomena is called telepathy. With the recognition of a spiritual cause, will come a reduction of associated pain.
6. Once a headache begins, I take a Maxalt and two Excedrin Migraine together.
If I am getting the headache everyday (like the last few days) I wake up in the morning before a headache begins and take one Excedrin Migraine every two hours all day in hopes that I don't end up getting one that day. Some times it works! If one begins I quickly take a Maxalt and lie down in a dark room with a cool compress over my eyes. The Excedrin usually keeps it from being too bad.
Good luck to you!
