can people with chronic pain stay in control when treating with narcotic pain medications?
I have had severe chronic pain due to fibromyalgia for 20+ yrs. I cannot function without the medication but my tolerance has gotten so high that my regular dose isnt helping anymore. Ive started taking more than prescribed and struggle with it every day. I am addicted but have to have this medicine. How do I keep it under control? Im scared. If I keep messing up my doc is going to cut me off.

1. Yes you can stay in control. I dont know what medication you are taking but there are extended release medications that are both potent and designed to reduce the amount of medication you have to take. Think oxycontin and the like. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor and voice your concerns. There is a difference between one who is addicted and one who abuses medication. After 20 years i would be surprised if you were not addicted to the mediction. Hope you find a solution.
