what could be the cause of this knee pain?

I started running high school cross country after years of not being active. I've had about 5 weeks of practise before the pain began but one week at a race, I ran up a big hill without doing any hills for maybe two weeks. The pain is on my left leg, leaning more to the inner side of my knee. it doesnt really hurt when i walk on a flat surface or when I run but when I walk up a path with a slightly steep incline. It feel it when I sit on my knees and when I sit on the floor with my leg extended (and also when I bring it up to stretch it on a high surface, like a table/bed. Would there be a torn ligament or soemthing like that , I cant really tell???

1. It sounds like You strained your UT Band in your Knee a very common injury for knew runners.Always remember RICE Rest Ice Compression and elevation and the pain and swelling will go away on its own. IF it last more then two weeks or gets worse consult with athletic trainer or Orthopedic surgeon.
