Knee pain. Help! I'm pretty sure there'll be a question mark after this, but ignore it -?

Every time I try and push a little harder during my workouts my knees give me shit. This wouldn't be as much of a problem if I wasn't young and didn't like being active, but I just hit 20 and I really like getting physical.

I'm not really looking for a diagnosis (I should probably see a doctor for that), but I would like some advice on how to temper the pain and push myself without making it worse.

Just so we're clear, when I say push harder, I don't mean anything insane. My baseline for years has been four days of lifting a week, and six days of not-that-intense cardio. Lifting has never given me issues, but whenever I crank up the cardio, my knees give out.

1. You don't want a diagnosis, but I'm going to give you some advice instead.
The body is warning you that you are doing too much.
If you don't slow down a little, you'll have permanent problems.
I have to walk with a stick because I decided I knew better than everybody else.
It's your choice. Please make the good one.
Good luck.
