What caused my knee pain? I had a sudden onset of pain of my rt knee during mile 18 of a 20 mile run.?

It hit my at mile 18 of a 20 miler I was doing today and it felt like my whole knee was giving out. I walked it off for a few minutes and after trying to resume I felt it right away mainly lateral side of knee around the fibular head. Also felt it a little in my calf muscle. I dont think it is ITB since it was by the fibular head. Biceps tendon? But it also felt like the whole knee was giving out as well. It does not hurt much now but I am curious on how to address this. Any thoughts???

other tidbits: I did an 18 miler last week without any discomfort. I think I was well hydrated and had enough carbs during my run. chicago marathon is 3 weeks and I am contemplating giving myself another shot to do my 20 miler if my knee is better by next week.

3. Go to the doctor. I'm 19, I had runner's knee when i was 12 didn't do exactly what my doctor said i had to do,cause i love sports, and last year had an MRI and was found knee tendonitis-and i mean all tendons-,small meniscus tear and runner's knee. All these because i overestimated my abilities. So don't do that the knee is the most complex joint of the human body and something becomes more fragile-say the tendons- something else will also get hurt because of the exess stress it's receiving.
