I fit the Fibromyalgia symptoms perfectly, now what?
I suffered with unexplained aches and pains for the past 14 years, since I was 7 years old! It wasn't until the past couple of months it has started to progress more and even more the past 2 weeks to the point that I couldn't take it anymore. So I researched my symptoms and kept coming across Fibromyalgia. I live in Eastern NC and am seeking medical attention asap. I have no health insurance and don't know what to do or where to start or how. Any advice, stories, or anything to either help me not feel so alone or help me medically?

1. If you don't have insurance, you need to contact the department of health & human resources (DHHR) and try to get medicaid. Either that or get a job that offers it or pay for private insurance, which ain't cheap. The first suggestion would be your best bet.
I have fibromyalgia, arthritis and degenerative discs in my neck and lower back. It's no fun & thank God I finally got medicaid.
It can be a long process sometimes so the day to call and set up an appointment is yesterday!!!
Without insurance you may be able to see a Doctor once every 3 or 6 months...just enough for him to give you something for it, but I don't know for sure.
Get started now!!
Stretching helps me a lot and without a Doctor all you can do is take something OTC (painkiller) and heat and a jacuzzi if you have access to one. Ask a pharmacist about creams with heat.
Good Luck!
2. the problem is that these symptoms also perfectly fit with other conditions (except the tenderspots)
there are many conditions that cause aches and pains..from vitamin deficiency to tumor--to lifestyle choices
it is nearly impossible to get a good eval as most docs don't really know much about fms...most get it wrong--they use it as a general label for pain which it is not....
without insurance or a lot of money...you can't get a good diagnosis
every state has some provision for charity care...you can start with that--at least try to get blood tests and xrays to rule out other things....
it is possible to have it at such a young age--my symptoms started when i was 5
medicaid programs are very limites--sometimes they are only open to families--if you don't have a child you cna't get it...or people with verified disabilities (you need medicaid to get the evals, but you need the evals to get medicaid)...maybe if you are lucky and you are extremely poor you will qualify on your own..if you can qualify for welfare you might get it
