How do I help prevent getting the 3D headache?

Literally within minutes of viewing 3D I start getting a headache and it sucks because long movies like avatar i can barely watch all the way through without vomiting. I like 3D and its really cool but i can't endure the headaches i get from it. Any tips or anything you have, maybe personal experiences would be awesome. Thanks.

1. The only method I have read about that does not require using medication is not to look at things in the background to much. So just look at the main focus of any scene. Like if the main character is talking and is right there in front of the camera, don't look at the mountains behind him. Just focus on the guy talking. This way your eyes aren't trying to change focus all the time like they would if you are constantly looking around. Don't know if it will work completely but it is suppose to help to some degree.
