Sharp pain in the back of my head :(?

Since I woke up yesterday I've been having this extreme sharp pain on the left side of my head at the back (on the occipital lobe). I can't bend my head to the left at all, maybe an inch before I can't anymore. Forwards or to the right isn't as bad but still painful. After a bit of pain trying to move then pain kind of lingers like a headache :S My boyfriend said I probably just slept funny but its still bad today. I've searched google but can't find anything helpful, if it's still bad in a week I'll go doctors, but any kinda help would be nice? :)
thanks for the help so far :) the pains not in my neck and is only when i bend my head to the sides or forward, its only on the left side and doesnt hurt when its touched. squeesing and rubbing it doesnt help because the pain feels a lot deeper than that.

1. could have been the way that ur head was positioned when u were sleeping
u could have hurt something

2. I hope you told him there wasn't anything funny about how it feels for they are a Royal Pain to say the least. You got yourself a tight muscle in your neck, called by many different names, but it's still a tight muscle. To get rid of the pain and to get the movement back into your neck you have to release the muscles in your neck and here's how to do that:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. After 45 seconds, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
With your neck in the lowered position, replace your thumbs in under the ears and your fingers behind your head but right next to your skull this time. Press your fingers and thumbs together again and hold. Relax your body while waiting. When the muscles have all released, slowly lift your head until it’s level again, release the pressure but hold your head like that for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
