I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia what kind of exercise should I do and what should my diet be like?

1. your diet should be a healthy one just like everyone else's as for exercise i recommend swimming or water aerobics because is very low impact, also light walking helps when its not to painful

2. I agree with Becca. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia over 10 years ago.

Light exercise (swimming and water exercise if you can get it!) is most helpful. I like to walk 40 minutes a day, five days a week.

A healthy diet is best. I look for foods without additives--I really believe that ingredients like artificial sweeteners and preservatives (and monosodium glutamate--MSG) can worsen fibromyalgia pain. The shorter the list of ingredients, the better. Frozen foods are better than canned foods, as the inside of cans can contain something called Bisphenol A (BPA), which I also believe can worsen fibromyalgia pain. Fresh foods, of course, are best.

I avoid being near pesticides, herbicides, and similar chemicals. These seem to make me hurt. (Of course they do--they're poison.)

Do not let yourself get exhausted or overly stressed. Do not miss sleep.

Fibromyalgia will cause hyperalgesia, which is a heightened sensitivity to pain, so that sometimes even being touched will hurt. Keep a daily pain diary with an image like this one http://fibrowise.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/fibromyalgia_ezr.jpg so that you can tell what makes you worse, and what makes you better. Three times a day (or however often you choose) mark on the image where you hurt, rate the pain on a 1-10 scale, and add what you were doing at the time. This will help you feel in control, and will also put you in control as you realize what you can do to lessen your symptoms. It also helps if you have to return to your doctor to show him/her her this pain journal.

Good luck! I am mostly pain-free after 10 years.

3. I highly recommend a low carb way of eating to allow the body to regenerate rather than degenerate.

I have Fibromyalgia - Vitamin D3 supplementation has cleared the constant muscle pain (for the most part). I did high levels for 3 weeks & was pain free. I knocked the dose down to 2000iu's a day & a week later the pain was back. After restarting high levels, the pain is managed again after 3 days.

I personally did 35,000iu per day for 2 months trying to refill my stores. It is highly recommended that you have your vit.D levels tested but my research shows toxicity only at outrageous, long term levels.

I originally did B12 injections daily for a couple of years & then I tried guaifenesin (Dr.St.Amand's protocol) for 10 years but discovered vit.D3 supplementation only recently & that has worked better than anything else!

Vitamin D3 is not a vitamin at all but a necessary hormone that effects the immune system & nearly every aspect of health. Having low Vitamin D levels greatly increases risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, MS (& maybe even FMS)

I don't think that FMS, cancer, MS, etc. is a vitamin deficiency but being deficient can create or greatly exacerbate health problems.

The prescription vitamin D supplements are the wrong type (ergocalciferol ). As warned by the National Institute of Health -

Luckily you can buy vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) over the counter and the upper limits are extremely high. Current recommendations are for 35iu per pound - a 150# person needs minimum of 5250iu per day & the rda is 400iu. This amount is for minimal needs and does not account for depleted stores. March is when stores are at their lowest.

Vitamin D3 deficiency is becoming an epidemic. U.S. RDA are much too low. It is possible that upper atmosphere pollution is blocking the needed UVB light from the sun.

5. I think, exercise should be light. To maintain a good health, your diet should be rich in green leafy vegetables, fruits and enough amount of protein foods. Avoid canned soups and vegetables, pizzas, pancake mixes, sausages and other processed meats, cookies, instant noodles etc.Eat more vegetables like summer squash, orange relish, tomatoes, radish, broccoli, corn, carrots, scallions, turnip, cauliflower, celery etc. Create fruit salads, these are delicious as well as fun to eat! Add bananas, apples, pine-apples, strawberries to your menu! Eat more fresh stuff.
