Does anyone know what causes a headache?

I have a huge headache right now and I'm wondering what causes a headache.

Public Comments

1. There are many different causes, Sequoia:
mental fatigue, stress, tension.
I suggest that you google it.

2. Common regular headaches usually come from being stressed, tired or head banging or from hearing something loud for a long period of time. Or even from irritation of smells. The best relief of a headache is too drink tea then go to sleep.

3. Most likely causes are:
- Tension in the neck and shoulders (from sitting at a computer)
- Dehydration
- Too much sun
- Eye strain

Here are some quick fixes for headaches:
- If you wear glasses or contact lenses: take them out to relax the muscles around your eyes.
- If possible, sit or lie down in a dark room (the light can make things worse).
- Drink a pint glass of water. Many headaches are caused by dehydration.
- Relax your shoulders. Many headaches are caused by tension in the upper back and neck.
- Take some moisturiser/cleansing oil and massage your face and neck - Pay attention to your eye sockets, earlobes and the sides of your neck, under your ears and down to your chest. This is where tension can build up. A massage here also stimulates blood flow to the head, which can help.
- Drop your head forward to your chest and roll it in a semi circle motion from left to right. This loosens up any stiffness in your neck and encourages blood flow to the head.
- Apply some 4Head (http://www.4headaches.co.uk/) to your... forehead. It contains 100% pure levomenthol (a type of peppermint) and numbs and soothes your head. It's more natural than taking painkillers.

Feel better soon!
