Possible causes and solution to knee pain?
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a lot of pain in my knee ca(lower knee cap). I take various over the counter pain medication, but I am curious as to what causes this and remedies. I cant go to the Dr. right now, due to the expense. Any home remedies or over the counter cures? Thanks for answering. I will use a brace too,but is there something else I can take?

1. exercises in moderation might help, but that won't get to the root of the problem, while i am sorry that you can't afford doctors bills, maybe that isn't the best long term solution. maybe the difference lies in thinking about improvement rather than how bad it is!
2. See your health care provider as soon as possible (orthopedic). There are free clinics in your area, check your yellow pages for big hospitals or visit online.
There are two cartilage compartments in the knee--one inner and one outer. If the cartilage wears unevenly, the leg can bow in or bow out. If you were born with crooked legs, there can be strain that causes the cartilage to wear more rapidly. If you are overweight, you are far more likely to have knee problems.
Listen to the pain message and try not to do anything that aggravates the pain. If you have arthritis, make sure you are taking your medication as directed. Otherwise, acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen may be used to ease the pain.
I hope this helps you. And good luck.
