Today I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. What should my next steps be?
Do I need a Rhumatologist? Are there diet and exercise plans that will help? Any advice on what to do and what to expect would be greatly appreciated. Also any links to helpful sites? Thanks.

1. the next step is to educate yourself
most docs are cluelss about fms--and falsely diagnose any pain as fms
be sure you really have it
who diagnosed you, are you sure they are competant to diagnose it, why can't they treat you or recommend a specialust?
rheumtologots are the specialist of record...but most are cluelss....itis actually a neuro condition
2. It was a Rhumatologist that diagnosed me. I did not want to take medication, so I decided to beat it myself by relation exercises, such as swimming, riding my bike, getting in shape, no stress, relax, etc., follow a good healthy diet. My doctor told me I should write a book on my accomplishment, he was that impressed!
3. I develope fibromyalgia fours and a half years ago and after a year and a half was actually diagnosed with it. I went the conventional route for about two years...what will happen is predictable. Pain killers, muscle relaxants, pain management, support groups... Fibro sucks a lot, and the hopelessness makes it worse. I turned to alternative health, and today i am 100 percent pain free if i stay mildly active. If i try to lift weights or something like that i get moderately sore for a day or two... Right now the only thing im doing to maintain this is eating healthy and taking some supplements. But i spent 10s of 1000s of dollars seeing different practitioners and 1000s of hours online researching FM. I strongly recommend pursuing the alternative health route...cures are not uncommon this way. Conventional docs barely understand anything about the condition. If you decide to pursue the alternative route, email me and ill give u some free advice that will save u a lot of time and money. I look thru these yahoo questions sometims to see if theres anybody i can help find the relief that i found. My email is manofmanytrades014@yahoo.com if youre interested.
