What causes the headache after a spinal tap and how do I get rid of it?

The only time it's bearable is lying down?
Is there anything else I can do?

1. a spinal changes the delicate balance inside the spine, it's fluid volume and pressure, causing headache and in some cases, dizziness and/or irritability. the best thing to do until the pressure equalizes is to try sleeping propped up, a cool rag or even a cold pack on your head, and stay still. motion dirupts everything. in about 24 hours from the proceedure, it should equalize. you can help your body recover by staying hydrated, and by staying away from bright lights and loud noises. get still for an hour, and the headache should at least become manageable. good luck.
