What to do when you have lower back pain on left side at 39 weeks pregnant?

I usually have a little bit of lower back pain. For the past couple hours my left side of my lower back has been in enough pain that its hard to walk. If anyone knows what this might be a sign of that would be great to know.

1. Contact your doctor you may be in early labor.

2. Could be labor.

Whenever I have back pain (I normally get it up in the middle left portion of my back) I have my husband stick his fist in there and rotate it a little. It hurts like heck while he's doing it, but afterwards it feels like he released whatever was irritating my back.

3. Baby could be sitting on your sciatic nerve. That is what caused me a lot of lower back pain that and the new weight your body is carrying can have a negative result on ur back. If you have a pregnancy belt you can wear that. Also laying on tons of pillows and applying a cold compress can do the trick. Also stay up on your fluids I was suprised at how not drinking the maximum amount of water caused me a lot of pain. My midwife told me a lot of these suggestions hope this helps. I agree with the massage bit it helps a lot to get the kinks massaged out and it helps to relieve stress and tension.
