Really bad headache at 12 weeks pregnancy, should i be worried?....?
I will be 13 weeks on Monday. I have also booked a docs appt for Monday night, but I just wanted to check if it was normal to get such bad headaches in early pregnancy. I had my blood pressure checked at my first booking appt at 7 weeks which was fine. I used to have it done every 6 months before I was pregnant, and was also fine, not sure if this can suddenly change in pregnancy. Yesterday my headache got really bad, like a pounding/pressure type feeling, I went to get my highlights done last night (first time in 3 months) which my midwife said is absolutely fine. I don't know if the smells in the hairdressers made me feel worse or whether my headache was just progressing, but I'm worried about it all. I went to bed at 9am, woke up at 7.30 this morning and although the headache has eased a lot since last night, I can still feel it. Should I be worried, or just wait for my appt on Monday night? Many thanks for your help.
sorry, should of said, 'went to bed at 9pm....'

1. well you're more sensitive to smells during pregnancy which could possibly be why the fumes from the salon could give you a head ache. However, head aches are common during pregnancy so it shouldn't worry you too much. Then again I'm not a doctor so make sure you keep that appointment. Until then don't worry yourself too much.
2. when it's your first preg. you worry about every little thing. you and your baby are fine. its normal for your body thats still adjusting to being preg to have some strange symptoms like headaches and minor pains here and there. just chill dude. its all good
3. You really shouldn't have your hair dyed when your pregnant but other then that its normal to have bad headaches when your pregnant. I know I did and they were caused from being dehydrated. You need to drink lots of water and avoid carbonated beverages.
4. I had horrible headaches during my pregnancy. Bend over from your waist and gently hang and let your muscles in your back, shoulders and neck relax. Sometimes those headaches are just when you have a kink somewhere. Unless the headache suddenly gets unbearable, I wouldn't worry. Could be your reaction to the natural pregnancy hormones.
5. I don't think you should worry unless you get really dizzy or black out. I got headaches a lot when i was pregnant. Some smells can give you headaches or make them worse. If you head is congested or you have allergy's it might be your sinuses or something like that. So you should be ok unless it gets worse. Good luck with the baby. : )
6. I have really bad headaches now and I'm 9 weeks.
I get a throbbing pain in the left of my head sometimes, and then just a general one which won't go away.
I guess it's just a bad side effect of pregnancy!
Good luck!

7. Headaches in pregnancy are usually caused by the increase in hormones.
If your blood pressure is fine, you're drinking enough fluids and eating enough then i'm sure that's what will be wrong.
You should try taking some paracetomol or tylenol, my midwife told me she's only concerned when you get a headache that isn't cured by paracetomol/tylenol, so try taking some and see if it helps.
The fumes of the hairdye would have made it worse, my mum dyes her hair from home and those fumes always give me a pounding headache for a few hours.
Also, you could try putting a hot/cold compress on your head and the back of your neck to see if that relieves it.
8. I get headaches in my first trimester too -- pounders like you describe. Had them at night & when I woke in the am. Thank god we can take Tylenol now, I used to just suffer through them. I also would do some hatha yoga poses to improve my circulation. Don't worry about it, hormonal changes are huge in the beginning which is what causes them, (from what research i have done) .
