Throbbing Headache During Pregnancy?
I will be 16 weeks pregnant on tuesday and have been having non-stop headaches for the last few weeks. They have recently gotten worse and it just feels like theres a huge amount of pressure squeezing the left side of my head, towards the front.
My OB is out of town till Mon and I'm in pain! Is there anything I can do besides hydrating and taking tylenol?
I've tried drinking coke and it helps mildly but doesnt make the pain go away and I worry about having too much caffine.
Thanks!!!
I was told by my dr several weeks ago when I brought this up that it's too early to be pre-eclampsia, and I check my blood pressure at home several times a week anyway, and its low-normal.
I spoke with the nurse but she said that unless its an emergency (and it's not really) that their practice prefers that the Dr you work with be the one to prescribe things. I can always call back later if things get worse.

1. put an ice pack at the base of your skull or take a cold shower and let it run right on the base. I had to do this a lot when i was pregnant because i didn't want to take too many tylenol.
2. Are there no nurses available at your Dr.'s office? Surely someone is available to answer any questions. Call the ER and ask to speak to a Dr or a nurse. Non-stop headaches are never a good thing and I wouldn't wish a bad one even on one of my worst enemies. Good Luck and I hope you get this sorted soon. I have also been having bouts with stress/tension headaches.
3. Try acupressure...it really does work! Some one just asked this same question earlier too. Here is a link for info on acupressure for headache relief. Hope it helps!

4. i would call maternity, and ask their advice! they are always helpfull and there 24/7 hope you feel better!!
5. A headache that cannot be relieved by a pain reliever (Tylenol) can be a sign of Pre-eclampsia. You need to get your blood pressure checked either by going into the doc. (he should have someone covering for him) or by going to a pharmacy/grocery store that has a bp machine. If your bp (blood pressure) is over 140/90 you need to go to L&D at the hospital!
6. This same thing has been happening to me. I'm 16 weeks today and at my last OB appt I complained of headaches from the time I awake until evening.
My OB says it's sinuses (yeah right...on the side of my head?) She says drink more water...etc.
I tend to be a worrier too, that probably has something to do with my headaches!
I'm curious to see what other have to say.

7. ? You need to have them check your blood pressure, some get high BP while pregnant ( i did ) and I got really bad headaches at times.. if the BP is high, then they need to monitor you more closely.. Water, tylenol, and a cold wash cloth on the back of your neck, lay down, but still have your doc or someone check your BP asap.. ~
8. I will be 20 weeks tomorrow and when I went to the Dr. on Wednesday I talked to her about the same thing!! She said for the most part tylenol isn't going to help with the headache once it gets that bad but she recommended for me to take Vitamin B6. It's an over the counter thing so you can pick it up anytime. She said to take it every morning in addition to your prenatal vitamins. Hope that helps!! If not, go in on Monday and there are other medications they can give you. My Dr. didn't seem concerned she says it's pretty typical.
