Pidgeon Toed, causing knee pain?

My 2 year old daughter is fairly badly pidgeon toed and trips a lot. She has seen a paedatrician but they refuse to do anything unless it is a problem when she is 10 then they will operate! She has also seen a podiatrist which said that they wont intervene until she is 3. Its so hard though! my poor baby is constantly falling overher feet! Worst of all she is now on occasion screaming in pain claiming that her knee hurts, it is not always the same knee and she is obviously in a lot of pain. I am just wondering if anyone has has a child with "pidgeon toes" complain of knee pain? I thought it could be growing pains but it is only ever her knees? I am taking her to the doctor this week in the hope that they will get her the shoes she needs to help her

1. Take your daughter to a pediatric orthopedist. My grandson has the opposite problem-he is knock kneed. The dr. told us that kids generally outgrow problems like this around 3 but if he began to be in pain get him back in right away. Please make her an appt. as soon as possible, no child should be in pain and I doubt that shoes will help her. Most children's hospitals will have a ped. ortho person on staff or will at least know where to contact one. Good luck and please do call right away.

2. wow...your story sounds VERY similar to mine!! my daughter (who is now 6) has been pidgeon toed of course since she started walking...i was told the same exact thing by my ped. about not operating till she was around 10 and i took her to a podiatrist and they had me make her an appt when she was 3...then finally when i took her for her kindergarten check up at the ped office they referred her to a orthpedic surgeon at childrens hospital....they told me that they didnt think her case was bad enough to do anyhing about right now until she started to complain of pain from it...i thought that was crappy b/c in my opinion they should take care of the prblem before the child is in pain...and sure enough now she is complaining of her knees hurting...she has an appt with the ped next week...so we will see then i guess!! sorry for the rambling...i just thought it was crazy that we both went through the same thing!! good luck!!
