what could be causing knee pain ?
my 13 year old son is very active. he's an advid skateboarder! for the last three weeks now he's been experiencing pain in his knee (top part) it's not swollen and he claims he's never hit it on anything. well, after further interrogating, i found out he's been doing alot of jumping off of platforms and landing on his board. could he possibly have a stress fracture? or, hairline fracture? should i bring him to the emergency room? or, just ground his little -ss from ridin the board? thanks for any medical advice.........peed-off mom

1. this happened with a lot of people I know too. It's either that he doesn't eat healthy enough or he might of damaged his knee. If his knee cap hurts go to a doctor right away! If not give it some time and if it starts to get worse a week later go see a doctor!
2. I would take him to the doctor. It probably is from the jumping stuff but you never know. (I'm a paranoid mom!)
3. Sounds like he's just over-doing the jumping onto hard surfaces & jarring his knee joints too much. He should do some non-weight bearing exercise like swimming to burn off energy & stay fit which will give his growing body some respite too. He also needs to wear compressive knee supports to provide correct joint alignment & improve healing. C a physiotherapist who can correctly diagnose the problem if it doesn't heal soon.
