Can an injurry to the Quad cause knee pain?
Whilst playing football yesterday an apponent studded my Quad muscle, it was of some force and I've got 4 marks and nasty bruising, a few hours after it my knee began to stiffen up and eventually it got to a stage where it was extremely painful to bend it. This morning it's slightly better, Im able to walk on it again, but its still painfull. I wondered whether a quad injury could of caused this? Or if its more likely to be something else?
help appreciated

1. Yes, most definitely. You should try icing both your quad and knee. A knee/quad brace would also help.
Have fun.
2. go to the doctor i had to have physio theripy for mine it works
3. yes. get it checked by a physical therapist. a quick professional help will rule out other causes. this cant be done by untrained eye
4. It is possible that blood and other fluids that leaked out to cause the bruising also flowed downhill into your knee and are causing the stiffness. Of course it is also possible that the force of the blow to your quad also caused some damage to your knee directly.
5. Defiantly!! There is a muscle that runs from you hip through your quads and connects to the knee which is called the Sartorius! Usually when you injury either you're hip, quads, or knee it will cause pain all throughout that muscle. There are also the two muscles called Vastus medialis, and Vastus lateralis which are on either sides of your quads that connect to your knee. It's nothing to worry about the leg muscles are very complex!
Keep it up, and apply ice!
