can the wrong pairs of shoes cause knee pain?

after a 5 mile race my knees stiffened up on me to the point it was painful to flex them. onSept 26 later I finished a marathon and the same symptoms occured.and today while helping my brother and mother move the heavy lifting brought back the symptoms however it was on a low scale. In all those cases I was wearing the same shoes. And I must add prior to the 5 mile race I while running the mckinley monument stairs I did feel a strange sensation while using those shoes...What could be the problem?

1. wearing improper shoes can definitely cause problems with your knees, hips, back and ankles. the best shoes i have ever found are asics. wearing good support insoles is also a good idea. if changing shoes doesn't help then you may want to consider seeing a doctor regarding the pain to make sure there isn't something wrong with the joints and/or muscles.

2. i don't think it you shoes. maby if you didn't stretch before running the marathon or you just started running (didn't train)

3. Yes the incorrect shoes could be a problem. But you might also consider wearing a brace might also help with the issue to.

4. wearing improper shoes COULD give you symptoms, but, hon, realistically, the problem is in your knees, not your shoes...get them checked;; it does help to have arch supports in your shoes, flat-footed or not...good luck!!
