Headache in back of head when I sleep on my back?
I have made an appointment with my doctor to discuss this but he can not see me for a couple of weeks so I wanted to see if anyone has had similar issues and if so, what it may be.
I have recently been getting headaches more often, usually on the right side of my head. It feels like a sharp pain and usually happens at some point throughout the day.
I have only mentioned the above in case it is related somewhat to the following.
I rarely sleep on my back, but when I do, I ALWAYS wake up and have a headache in the back of my head. It hurts a lot when I go to move my head, usually it goes away after a couple of minutes when I turn onto my stomach to go back to sleep.
Any clue as what this may be?
I appreciate any help.
Thank you

1. I have never experienced this but based on what you describe the pillow could have something to do with this. What I mean is that it may be an indication that it is time to get a new pillow. This is just an example only.
If the pain gets worse, I would recommend calling the doctor back to let them know what's going on.
2. Your neck may be out of alignment causing this problem.
I realized that
When you say the Right side of your head, can you be a little more descriptive:
OK you feeling pain on the Right side, but is it on the Top and toward the back of your head also?
when did you notice this pain?
This pain is not constant?
I was going to say that you may have a pinched nerve - and it is effecting your Occipital nerve in your head.
The dr can give you a shot of lidocaine in your head to help with pain. it is what they call a Greater occipital nerve block

How is your pillow is it Flat? You may want to try and get a Neck Pillow but if you cannot afford one of them here is something you can do:
Take a towel and Fold it so that you can make it like a log roll .
There are inexpensive "horseshoe shaped pillows" that would help also , just wrap it around your neck
I could very well be wrong, because obviously I do not know your medical history of any possible injuries....
Your neck may just be out of alignment and a Chiropractor could help you with this or Physical therapy, they can give you some gentle stretching exercises.
Hope all goes well!
