What can I do for my lower knee pain?

Whats up with my knee??? It hurts in the inner lower front section of my left knee. It feels like a toothache kind of pain and gets worst when I go down stairs or walk around too much. I've had x-rays and there is nothing wrong with the knee itself but its been months now and the pain will not go away.

1. Sounds like a patella Tendon problem (could be PFS) Go see a physio. If you can't you can try to get a patella band that applies constant tension.

2. If you gently stretch the leg muscles, you relieve the tension on the knee cap allowing for proper tracking. The only drawback is you have to be patient and consistent with your stretching routine. You can't expect your muscles to loosen up after just a few stretches. With increased activity comes increase tightness so it's something you have to do often.
I had to stretch several times a day. I even would stop and stretch in the middle of my jog to help get me through my routine. Eventually, my knee pain completely went away. My two miles of limping turned into a four and half mile pain-free jog thanks to a few simple stretches.
While there are many reasons for knee pain, tight leg muscles are often the culprit especially if you just started noticing it after increasing activity. Unfortunately, many people quit an exercise program due to aches and pains discovered after beginning their new routine. Just keep in mind the solution maybe easier than you think.

3. Go to the pharmacy, seek out the counter where the "Doctor Scholl's insoles are. The mostly hang
at a display board. There are all kinds filled with gel to soften the step. Choose a pair you think will help. They are marked what pain they might ease. If not sure ask the pharmacist.
It helped me a great deal.
Good luck!

4. Sounds like just normal tear and wear of the knee. I had a RTA many years ago and my knee smashed into my dash board. I get the same pain when I put on a few pounds and it feels a lot better when I loose some weight. I have had investigations and the knee itself grinds when examined or moved about by the professionals all that I was told is just normal wear and tear.

5. You need an MRI. You probably tore a cartilage. An Xray won't show that. Torn cartilage can be very painful. The surgery is no fun, & will lay you up for 3 months, but it's better than putting up with the pain. If UR young you may heal faster.
My new knee is working fine & I'm now pain free. The full knee replacement recovery time is 3-5 months with lots of physical therapy. I'm having the other one done next fall.

6. X-rays would not show structural damage as well as MRI. You would need a MRI in order to see what really is going on with your knee. From your description, it sounds like a tear in your medial meniscus, but only a MRI would prove that. Any kind of twisting will trigger the meniscus, so if you have pain when you twist, then chances are high that it is your meniscus.

See a orthopedic doctor that specializes in knees and get a second opinion because there is something going on in your knee. Good luck
