What is wrong with my knee? Stiffness/popping/some pain.?

For a week, I have been experiencing significant stiffness in my knee. I don't believe an injury precipitated this. My knee is also popping much more than usual. There is some pain, particularly after exercise or when bending all the way. The stiffness is also more apparent when I bend my knee all the way, and there sometimes feels like something is pulling at the top of my knee, just under the quadriceps muscle. The symptoms seem to be worse after exercising or standing for long periods.

Other info: I have had joint trouble for several years now, but no diagnosis has been given. I am overweight, but I have been losing weight recently. I work out several times a week (between 4-6 times). I am a 26 year old female.

Thanks!!

1. go to a doctor and get them to check it out, cos you never know when it might be something serious.
not saying that it will be this, cos its highhly unlikely. but i have a friend who had a sore knee for ages, and she went to the doctors about it, and they said that it was nothing serious. and then after about a month of having it, she finally went to a doctor who discovered that she actually had a tumor in her knee.
soo theres a lesson for us all, get things checked out.
