What should I do if a migraine lasts longer than 72 hours?

This is the beginning of the fourth day of my migraine. I have never had one before in my life. Everytime I stand I get a sharp pain behind my eyes and around my temples. My neck and shoulders are stiff and hurt when I move. Should I see a doctor? Go to the ER? I've been taking Ibprofen but should I be taking something different?

1. See a doctor.

2. If you have had a severe headache that long, it most likely is not a migraine. You should see your doctor or go to the ER.

3. Go see a doctor and stay out of the light. I think bright lights makes it worst.

4. See a doctor for sure. I used to get migraines & still do, but very rarely. I never had one that lasted more than 1 day. I have a friend though that has migranes every day of his life. He's been to the doctor, but they can't do much for him. I doubt you have the same thing he has though.

Hope you feel better! Excedrin Migrane does wonders for me!

5. Well if you haddent ever had migraines the it is probably a sinus infection

6. I'm not trying to frighten you but the pain you are feeling could be something very serious or it could be a simple sinus infection, but you need to see a doctor ASAP. Severe Pain in the neck is a symptom of meningitis which if not treated can kill you. Or you could be having a mild stroke or DVT(Deep Vein Thrombosis) which is a blood clot in a large vein in your body that can break free and pass into a vital area of your body such as you lungs, heart or brain which can also kill you. Most of these illnesses are rare and probably nothing to worry about but you still need to see a doctor. Good Luck And I hope you have a fast recovery.
