Medicine isn't working for fibromyalgia anymore what will they do next?
I have fibromyalgia and am always in pain. I go to a pain doctor and take Cymbalta, Klonipin and Hydrocodone. I take 3 10mg Hydrocondone a day and they are starting to not work. I am not sure if there is a stronger strength or if I can take more. I know the pain in killing me and not sure what else they are going to do. Does anyone have fibro and what is the best meds that work?
I have tried everything, chiropractor, massage therapy, physical therapy. I exercise and stay active, work a full-time job. I get plenty of sleep and only work 3 days to get my 40 hours and have a easy job taking care of 2 high functional disabled ladies, we stay busy. The weather seems to be making it worse since it is cold now. I think that is why the meds don't seem to be working as well. I have tried Lyrica but it made put me in a haze and couldn't function and savella made me get hives so can only do Cymbalta and pain meds. I have good insurance just wasn't sure if there was anything to suggest to doctor that would work for pain but not cause me to be more drugged up.

1. go on long walks and stretch alot. and try to do resistance training.
2. I have fibromyalgia myself and I can tell you that most meds don't work. I take oxycontin for my pain and it makes it bearable but it doesn't go completely away. You may want to ask your doctor about this. Don't be surprised if he won't because most doctors don't like giving oxycontin because its so addictive. My doctor and I went over the pros and cons and decided for me it was the best Solution. I can't take lyrica either because it made me pass out behind the wheel while driving. VERY SCARY! If you think you have a good relationship with your doctor, no harm in asking... Good Luck.
3. Have you tried Neurontin? This is actually usually used for seizures but is also widely used for Fibro. And Amytriptoline is one of the first things my doctors tried me on. Unfortunately I have a severe sensitivity to a lot of medications and I can't take either of these but have FINALLY found what works for me. I take Limictal, another seizure med and believe it or not, Ultram works much better than any of the stronger pain killers. I have also taken extended release Morphine (MS Contin) and other than relieving my symptoms I felt no side effects from it. he only problem with this is that it stopped wrking at a loe dose pretty quickly and I chose to no raise the dose. That's when my doctor had me try the Ultram (I actually take the generic, Tramadol) That was 3 years ago and I have taken it ever since and it still works great for me. I was taking the maximum dose (400 mg daily) until starting the Limictal. The Limictal helps my symptoms some and now I take between 200 and 300 mg of the Tramadol daily. Hot baths and heating pads help. You are doing the right thing with staying active and getting exercise. Oh, and to let you know, I started taking the Limictal for depression as regular anti-depressants actually make me more depressed and my doctor had me give this a try. If you do happen to get it, make sure to follow that dosing instructions very carefully. You have to very start with a very low dose and slowly work your way up. I guess there can be some serious side effects with your skin (?) if you take too high of doses too quick. I haven't had one single side effect form it other than after taking it for a few weeks I finally feel physically and mentally better that I have in literally 20 years!! Good luck and I hope you find something that starts working again.
4. I also have Fibromyalgia in 17 of 18 trigger points so I am always in pain. The Dr gave me Lyrica also and it never touched my pain. He said take Motrin with it, no help. I just try to live with the pain because I am allergic to all the good pain meds like hydrocodone and oxycontin and anything with codeine, demerol, fentanyl and just about everything else so basically I put up with the pain. I have been on most meds mentioned and can't take them or they don't help. It doesn't help that I also have Gastroparesis and have to sit up on the couch to sleep EVERY NIGHT for the past 2 years. I get a few massages but they are only temporary relief. The weather does make it worse. The Dr suggested antidepressants for pain relief but I'm not going down that road. My stomach won't dissolve pills so I need liquids, gel caps or have to crush up all the pills I take. I hope you can find something that will help you. Exercise, rest and massages help some as does a good soak in a bubble bath when you can. Ultram, Neurontin and Amytriptoline never worked for me, never tried Limictal.
