Type 4 Diabetes real?
I have had severe pain along with other symptoms most of my life and finally received a diagnosis of fibromyalgia about 5 years ago. I was doing a search earlier today on diabetes and fibromyalgia and came across a page that stated that fibromyalgia was a part of Diabetes type 4.
What I am looking for is if Diabetes type 4 is a real diagnosis i need something to print out for my doctor. I am continuing my search but would love to hear anyone's input on diabetes type 4
An endocrinologist is not an option at the moment. The nearest one is about 2 hours away and I have a through the roof traveling pain scale and am on a doctors restriction of 20 square mile distance.

1. Ask your regular doctor to send you to an endocrinologist, who can test both your oral glucose tolerance and your blood insulin levels. They'll be able to diagnose any issues.
Personally, I don't put much stock in the idea of 'type 4 diabetes' as a diagnosis in itself: elevated insulin levels and the resulting symptoms are due to some underlying disease, not a disease in themselves.
2. Four Types of Diabetes
•Type 1 autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing cells leading to hyperglycemia (high blood glucose)
•Type 2 insulin resistance leading to hyperglycemia (high blood glucose)
•Type 3 depletion of insulin in the brain leading to Alzheimer’s Disease
•Type 4 elevated insulin levels leading to hypoglycemia (low blood glucose), chronic pain and related complications
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are recognized medical terms. Type 3 Diabetes is a new term proposed by a research team at Brown Medical School. Type 4 Diabetes is my term for malfunctioning blood glucose control leading to low blood sugar and neuropathic complications.

3. get a glucose meter and check your blood sugar 2 hours after eating a normal size meal. also check in the morning before eating anything.
4. Diabetes Type 4 is NOT a medical diagnosis. Neither is Type 3.
ONLY Type 1 (insulin dependent) and Type 2 (Weight related) diabetes are recognized medically.
When websites start talking about "Diabetes Type 4" you need to start taking your research elsewhere, as it is CLEAR that the authors of the website are NOT medically competent, and are in fact probably "snake oil salesmen" -- medical quacks.
Note, though, that diabetes and fibromyalgia BOTH seem to have a connection to the autoimmune system, and there MIGHT be a relationship between their underlying causes. But so far this is just a supposition, and MUCH more research is needed before there is ANY important linkage between the two diseases.
5. THERE IS NO such thing as diabetes type 4...that's a joke. there is diabetes type one which usually has it's onset in young folks and type 2 which it's onset is later in life....i have type 2 and also have fms. i became diabetic 11 years ago and i am 67 yrs. old. diabetes and fms are not related..in any way. knowing many fms folks, not all of them have diabetes. i own a yahoo private group called ole hippies with fibromyalgia. if you would like to join just go to our holding group "fibromyalgiabridge" and join and then you will be transfer over to the private group. we're 11 yrs old now and willing to support you. good luck and be well. hugs, nancy lemke (the ole hippie, just a state of mind)
6. Never heard of it.
Could you post the source of the page which mentioned type 4?
