Pregnancy headaches?!? What causes them and is it a headache or migrane? Can't tell. I'm 16 weeks along.?
I get these nasty headaches, where I wake up and I know that I will have a headache for the rest of the day, nothing helps. Tylenol doesn't do anything even. I had this happen last week the day of my appointment and my blood pressure was fine and my Ob didn't seem worried at all. It's just annoying more then anything. But how can I tell if it is a bad headache or a migraine? I know that migraines do run in my family (dad's side) so don't know if pregnancy may be triggering it or what? What are some good home remedies to help the headache?
I did ask my doctor and she didn't suggest anything really beside a cold washcloth on forhead and back of neck. lay down raise legs and do it in a dark room. But if it keeps bothering me to talk to her, which she is a hour away so I don't have the conveinence to hop in the car and be there in a few minutes either. I did stop drinking caffine. I cut out pop/soda and drink decaf coffee.

1. Tylenol does nothing for many people, so don't expect miracles. It's safe to take during pregnancy because it's a weak painkiller. Ihave migraines, but I have done for the past 15 years, so for me it's normal. I'm not going to diagnose you, because only a doctor can do that. I would suggest talking to your doctor and asking his advice. I was told to come off caffeine completely in case that was causing my migraines. I still get them now though, so it was only a temporary fix.
sometimes it's just a case of riding it out until it goes.
2. i think its headache...its normal to get headaches in pregnancy i had them too all along my pregnancy...but as u go further along with it u'll start to feel better....i personally dont think u shouldn't take too much tablets cuz they can affect the baby....only tske 1/2.ur Ob didnt seem worried cuz this is verrrrrry normal in pregnancies to have headaches symtoms of pregnancy.just try to concerntrate on something else so u stop thinking u've got headache..thats what i did and totally forgot about the pain...neways hope u get better
3. when i was first pregnant, i had a headache every single day clear into my second trimester. even now i will still get a bad headache some days.. and i agree... tylenol hardly takes the edge off. i have suffered from migraine headaches since 5th grade and grew out of them around 20 years old. i will have a really bad one about once a year. have yet to get one while pregnant. knock on wood. what i do for the headaches is lay in a dark room if i can and try to take a nap. i would try to drink something hot. and maybe use a warm washcloth for your head and neck. you most likely are just having bad headaches so take the tylenol, drink something hot, and lay down. i hope it gets better for you.. mine have. hope that gives you some hope. sorry...
4. You need to see your doctor again. Tell him migraines run in your family and don't leave until he gives you some useful advice. Those things are beyond miserable!
For what it's worth, my migraines were tied to my cycle and to low progesterone. (I took a saliva test.) My doctor had me on progesterone for quite a while before I conceived and some time into the pregnancy. As long as I used the progesterone faithfully, I had no problems. There comes a point where the baby tells your body to make more progesterone, and then it isn't needed any more. At that time, he gave me a prescription for an anti-nausea suppository for me to use if I got a migraine. I can't remember the name, phenergan, maybe? I only needed it a couple of times. Most regular migraine meds can't be used during pregnancy.
Good luck! If your doctor doesn't listen to you, find a new one!
