chronic knee pain and cracking?

Hi, I am 21 years old and my knees have been cracking ever since I was 13 or 14. Most of the time, its nothing, but recently I have been feeling this dull, almost numbing pain in my knees (sometimes in my entire leg and in the hip and ankle) like the feeling you get if you put ice on a bodypart or you've been hit with a blunt instrument.

This happens if the weather is cold or I've been out running, but it also happens if I haven't done anything.

I had xrays done on my knees and there weren't anything wrong with them a few years ago.

any ideas?

thanks

1. Sounds like sciatica nerve ...and / or arthritis.

Suggestion: visit to the doctor ...x ray should show arthritic inflammation but not sciatica nerve damage.
