Has anyone experienced chronic lateral (outside) knee pain?

I have a chronic pain in both knees at the lateral (outside of thigh) part of them. I am certain that they are from over-training, but they won't heal. I have stopped lifting weights or running for two months now. Sometimes they will get better, then worse over the course of a week for no apparent reason. Once they are warmed up, I could run as long as my endurance holds out without pain. A half hour later, I can barely walk. Ice and anti-inflammatory medicine only help in the short term. I know I need to go to a doctor, but I can't afford it. I am so frustrated. I am starting to feel like I'll never be able to participate in sports again. Has anyone had anything similar to this? And if you did, what did you do to make it heal?

1. I think you need to see a Podiatrist! Could be that your alignment, as in feet are incorrect which will put the knees under undue pressure, hence the pain. As the pain is on the outside part of the knee, sounds as if your feet/ankles are rolling inwards, therefore you will probably need special insoles to correct the problem. Best of Luck
