Help with Chronic knee pain?
I have had chronic knee painfir years and it has been getting progressively worse. I am only 21 and do not have sore joints anywhere else. I thought it was just from working all day (standing) but it occurred to me that my knees shouldn't hurt THIS much. It usually hurts more as the day goes on and sometimes feels a little better after i stretch. Do I have arthritis? If so what kind? What can I do? Just excercise end tylenol?
Bad knees do run in my family but my relatives have all rotated their knee caps, which has never happened to me.

1. It could be a lot of different things causing the knee pain. Anything from arthritis to not wearing the proper shoes could be irritating the knee joints. And if you are overweight, that is adding to the problem. The more weight the knees have to carry, the more stress and pain.
Have a doctor evaluate you and see what the real issue is and then you will have the information to deal with it much better. Might be losing weight or certain exercises to help strengthen the supporting muscles or anti-inflammatory medication. Pain is not a normal thing and it should be checked into. Pain is our body's way of telling us something is wrong.
2. The knee pain could be several things and should be checked out by a doctor. Especially if it came on suddenly.
I have suffered from arthritis most of my life, so I know about pain and have learned to manage it most of the time. I think that knee pain is second only to back pain as the worse because you are always putting weight on it.
If the doctor tell you it is arthritis he can also tell you what type and what you can do to help you with the pain. At your age please watch that you don't begin with really strong pain meds as you will only become more and more dependent on them and then they will not work as well when you really might need it. I thank my grandmother for teaching me at a young age how to manage my pain. I am 63 now and have only begun stated take prescription pain meds a few times a week in the last two years. I also laugh at the doctors who told my parents (when I was 4) that I would in a wheelchair by the time I was 16. Well at 63 I am still walking.
Do go to a doctor and have it checked out to make sure it nothing serious first.
3. If you've never torn your ligaments/tendons or done damage to the cartilage in your knee the most likely culprit is your foot wear. Try good(1Yr old or less) shoes w/good arch support or high arched cushioned insoles in your old shoes. This may feel a little uncomfortable at first. A significantly large portion of low back/knee pain is from "comfortable" shoes that offer little arch support. Your feet may cramp a bit at night until the small bones in them adjust to having firm pressure across the entire sole. Good Luck and Good Health!!!
4. OK there are many different things that can cause knee pain. The most common cause is a misalignment in either your pelvis or your feet.
If the pain is worse at the end of the day, it's your feet.
If it is worse when you get up in the morning, its your pelvis.
If it doesn't change throughout the day, it is probably your knees.
The best thing to do is to see a chiropractor. They specialize in musculoskeoletal (muscles and joint) conditions. They will be able to diagnose the true cause of your problem. Then more than likely they can help correct it.
Make sure it is a chiropractor who will adjust the extremities ( arms, legs, feet, etc.. ). Some chiropractors will only adjust the neck (which is not really what you need).
I really wish you the best
