What's a good alternative to medication in reducing some of the pain associated with Fibromyalgia?

Most everything available by prescription indicates that you should not operate heavy machinery or drive. I have a class A CDL license and drive big trucks for a living so that's not a viable option. And I'd rather not continue taking Aleeve all the time, although it helps, because its just hard on your kidneys over time.

1. Drink Green Tea it helps with the inflammation in the body.

I have RA and this is a Great Relief for me.

Good Luck!!!!

2. Cold and heat should be applied to painful areas at different times:

Use cold when you think that damage has just occurred and inflammation is developing.

Use heat when you think that the initial stages of inflammation are over, in order to improve flexibility and , perhaps, to speed healing.

Fibromyalgia may be managed with regiments such as amitryptyline (Elavil) an hour or so before bedtime and Prozac in the morning. The goal of medication here is to improve the quality of sleep without causing drowsiness during the day. Also check with your doctor on which medication you can take, while driving. I hope this helps you. And good luck.

3. Yoga! Yoga provides relief for the pain caused by Fibromyalgia, in fact my yoga teacher has it and she swears that if it weren't for doing yoga everyday she wouldn't be able to walk most days.

Since you drive a lot yoga would be easy for you to do when you stop to get the circulation going and stretch out the tightness caused by sitting for too long.

Hope you try it I think it will bring you some relief!

5. Hello,

Researchers have discovered that certain neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which controls mood, sleep patterns, and pain, are very low in fibromyalgia patients. Apparently disturbances in brain chemistry are to blame for the changes that occur in muscle structure and metabolism in those suffering from Fibromyalgia.

Currently there are no drugs approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration to treat Fibromyalgia although there are a few currently being developed.

Doctors mainly aim to treat symptoms of Fibromyalgia with the following types of medications:
-- Eat soft foods high in flavonoids (such as fruits and vegetables) to provide antioxidants to decrease joint pain.
-- Avoid saturated fats and fried foods as they increase inflammation.
-- Do not take big bites; rather cut your food into smaller pieces, so you don’t have to overwork your jaw.

Ceratin herbs that have been found to be quite beneficial without the cahracteristic side effects that you dread are Devil's Claw, Boswellia serrata, Glucosamine, and Centella asiatica.
