2. I used to run on a treadmill for 30 minutes every morning, and eventually my right knee started hurting, all the time. It was very painful. I started wearing one of those Ace patch things to support my kneecap and it helped somewhat. But the pain still didn't go away.
Finally I started riding a stationary bike instead, and sometimes one of the elliptical things at the gym, for cardio. I never went back to running. I have absolutely no pain ever, anymore.
I think you should stop running for awhile, and then try again later, and if it comes back, just find a different way to exercise. Running's very hard on the knees.
-- also, there's a good chance that if you keep running on it while it's already injured, it could get worse, because what's happening is the padding stuff between the bones is wearing out. It's similar to arthritis.
3. If it's been over a year since you seen the doctor you could have more damage to it. Running is not good for your knees at all! I have had 2 knee surgeries and my orthopedic surgeon told me to absolutely never run. I would try riding bikes or use the elliptical machine. As far as running though, I'm afraid you may have to give that up.
